- The Fun Part, Telling the Guests Some Amusing Stories About The Groom!
In the normal order of speeches, the Father of the Bride will make his speech first, followed by the Groom and finally the Best Man. The Best Man’s speech is the most anticipated and it can be quite unnerving sitting through the other speeches, waiting for your time to deliver your speech.
The Groom will finish his speech with a toast to the bridesmaids, and it is customary for the best man to thank the groom for his kind words on behalf of the bridesmaids, who would not normally make a speech of their own. The best man may also offer a toast to the Bride (and/or grooms) parents or perhaps even to absent friends.
You may also choose to read some messages or cards from guests who have requested so or not been able to make the wedding. Having some formalities to follow through may build your confidence, getting the speech ball rolling before you come to the main points of your speech.
You have a platform to compliment the Bride And Groom, it will be very difficult to spend a great deal of time on the day with them, they will be very busy, as will you so this is the ideal time to let them know how happy you are that they are now married and how honoured you are to be the Best man at their wedding. This is a good opportunity to talk about how the couple met, how great they are together and how they make the perfect couple. It is advisable to steer clear of any negatives, wedding planning problems, religious issues, explicit sexual references and threats to call off the wedding.
The Bride will get most of the attention on the wedding day and you have the chance to address the balance by talking about the groom. Think about how you met and why they would have chosen you to be their best man. How would you describe the Groom? Think of a few words you would use to define them. You could make reference to the Groom before he met his partner and talk about how the couple met. It is best to avoid negative situations, look for the funny or endearing side of the stories you present in your speech, you will find the humour comes through in your speech naturally.
